Well That's Weird

Greg_House

The last week and half I have been sick. No surprise, I am sure. It is that time of year when the stinkin' germies come out from hiding and start attacking small, innocent children - like me. Last week we first went into see our Pediatrician (again, we can not say enough good about her, she is truly amazing) And with the symptoms I was showing (working hard to breath, needing oxygen, fevers, coughing up yucky stuff, and more), she called our newest friend in the neighborhood, my Pediatric Pulmonologist (he is also on our top ten list of great people, and deserves a post unto himself, but I got sick before I could tell you all the great things he has done for me in the last month). He gave Mommy a list of things to do to get better, and I did . . .  for a while.

One crazy thing about every time I get a respiratory infection is it makes my stomach feel horrible. I get all pukey, and the antibiotics always make things exit a little too quickly out the other end, and well . . . it is like my whole body revolts whenever I get sick. Not so fun. So since I was starting to getting better my good parents decided I needed to get something more in my body than just pedialyte and tried to slowly introduce my G-tube formula back. Well, I started feeling a little sick to my stomach again, but did okay . . . for awhile.

Then something interesting started to happen, as they gave me more formula I started spiking fevers, 104 degrees Fahrenheit to exact. They would give me pedialyte again, and I would feel better. Start formula again meant I would spike fevers. Now I had my regular "I had a Birthday and turned 4 years old" appointment with our Pediatrician already scheduled so my parents decided to keep me on pedialyte and talk to our doctor then about this problem. She wanted to see if there really was a correlation since I had been fever free for 72 hours while getting just pedialyte so she had Mommy and Teddy start my formula again that night and she would call an talk with my Pulmonologist (the fevers kept leading to worsening of my respiratory symptoms) and my Gastroenterologist. We went home started some formula and I did okay . . . for a short while.

That night I spiked a fever again. And well, my parents were started to really wear down after not getting a good night sleep for two weeks now. My Pediatrician called first thing that morning and Mommy told her how I had gotten sick again during the night. The Pediatrician told Mommy that Pulmonologist had given them some more things to do and also to call if she had more fevers. The Gastroenterologist was uncertain what exactly was going on, but wanted to know if I spiked a fever. So Mommy ended up calling the Pulmonologist to talk about the fevers and he decided it would be best if I had another Chest X-ray and to come in and see him. So we hurried and took off and saw him. He also called our Gastroenterologist to see if there was anything he could add. We got there, he knew I was worse and scared Mommy with the idea of me having to stay in the hospital (not our favorite place for sleepovers), but decided against it and gave Mommy a list of aggressive treatments to do at home.  After that all kings horses and all the kings men came to a consensus, "Well this is weird," why yes, yes it is. They did brainstorm and came up with an idea for the fevers. Have me try a different "elemental" formula that is much less taxing to digest and also easily absorbed. But did not work  . . .  for a while.

Now Tino had already made plans to come into town, and spend some time just hanging out, so it turned into a good weekend of a lot of relaxing. Slowly introducing this new formula, and constant respiratory treatments. And Sunday night we had a break through, I tolerated some formula without getting a fever. Tino, always knows just how to make me feel better.  All our Doctors called Monday Morning (yes, they really are that good) and were glad we were finally getting better. But after all this lack of food and being sick, I was starting to look a little worse for wear. My Mommy wanted to go in and see my Gastroenterologist to see where would go from here with this new formula.  We found out I have lost over 10% of my body weight, which is horrible, but I am at least tolerating formula now. Well, "slow and steady wins the race" and that is how we are moving forward with new formula in increasing its concentration of calories. One sad thing, Mommy voiced her concern about the intensity of the symptoms and extreme fevers and the significant weight loss with this viral respiratory infection. Is this something we would expect all winter? He then replied that we are not to go anywhere. The more of a bubble we live in this winter the better. We will try our hardest, we do have a few activities coming up that we are going to have to rethink, but for the most part we will have to come up some awesome home activities. Oh, and don't think you can't come visit. We LOVE visitors and being home all the time makes us crazy! So come and help us stay sane this winter.

Oh and FYI, anyone thinking of buying stocks right now might one to invest in some of these product:

 CLOROX02452 hand sanitizer Lysol-Disinfecting-Wipes-Spring-LSS-_i_lbw61178_01S

Mommy is thinking of  talking  with the makers of these products to negotiate a deal of having these delivered to our house by the barrel. She is a little weird that way.

Well of course I knew watching movies, eating ice cream, and playing games on my netbook would make you feel better! hehe I'm just glad we didn't have to repeat me spending the weekend with you in the hospital like the last time I planned one of these weekends!

Oh Michelle, I am so sorry you are sick again. You like to be a little enigma, don't you? We love you and hope you can stay as healthy as possible this fall and winter!

I am glad that you were keeping some food in you tummy by the time I came to see you this last weekend. I am also glad that you included that visitors are still welcome clause or I might be feeling a little guilty about invading your bubble. We need to get more soldiers recruited into the war on germs!

Here I am, in my own bubble, unaware of the war that is being fought in your neck of the woods. I'm glad you are the winning general.
